Question on XLIFF

Hi,

I'd like to know if XLIFF is a really popular format among the localization/translation community world over.
If any of you have used or are using tools that deal with documents in XLIFF format, I'd like some feedback on the following.

How popular is XLIFF?

Do you think XLIFF is a well defined format for translation?

What XLIFF tools do you use / have you used? What do you like/hate about the tool(s)?

What supporting features would you like to have in your translation tool (like support for Translation Memory. Any others.)?

Do you think there are enough tools for translation that support XLIFF?

Any other thoughts.

I'm asking these questions because I plan to write an Open Source tool for Translation starting with a good XLIFF Editor. I hope to make it simple, intuitive, easy to use and add features as I go. I think I have the right ideas, but I'm not sure. Anyway I thought I should give it a shot.
I tried checking out some tools from this site but I wasn't too sure if that is what is needed.

Thanks!

The Indian Cricket League, touted by some as a rival to the BCCI has been in the news lately. I've found this whole thing to be very interesting for many reasons. It is a strong concoction of emotions, passion, business strategies and money.
They announced their first set of players (Indian and foreign) yesterday. The foreign players include some big names who have just retired or on the verge of retirement, but still have a couple of tricks up their sleeves. There has been some speculation/unconfirmed reports on how much some of these famous international cricketers are being paid and the figure is huge. The domestic players don't include any big names except for a few who have had brief stints in the Indian team.
I've been reading about this and have been watching a few debates/discussions on the news channels comprising of people from all walks of life - sportsmen, media professionals, marketing gurus, lawyers and just about everybody who have an opinion.
Whats in it for the Essel group which is backing this venture? They have admitted that they are into it for business reasons. But also claim it is a platform for the younger players to showcase their talent and also rub shoulders with some of the big names in International cricket. The business reasons apart, the objective largely is to end the monopoly of BCCI. Considering the way BCCI is managed, I too agree that they don't agree that they don't deserve the kind of money that they are raking in.
Anyway, I'm happy that this will give an opportunity for some of the domestic players to make a decent amount of money playing here. Considering that there so few people who make it to the Indian team (and thereby make big money), it is not fair that the rest are left to rot.
What I think will determine the success of this whole venture is-
The entertainment value that it will bring in terms of the quality of cricket that will be played.
The on field chemistry that would exist between the lesser known players from domestic cricket and the international stars.
All eyes are watching how this will turn out. They say we have to wait and watch.
There was a report yesterday that BCCI is already considering revising (increasing) the Match fees for Ranji players.

Summer Camps

I was on my way to work today when Vasanthi from Radio City put out a topic on air today asking for people to express their opinions. The topic was - "Summer Camps" should we really be sending our children to one of these?
This reminded me of this article in The Hindu that I read yesterday and I messaged Vasanthi saying I couldn't help but agree with that article which was titled 'The right to do nothing' and she put me on air. There was another person on air with me who said thet summer camps were a very good thing for children as they helped the children interact and socialize. Vasanthi asked people if they really agreed with my opinion and there was another person who said he didn't agree with my view and summer camps were a good thing and said it helps develop the overall personality of the child and everything.
I do agree with them and I didn't mean children must not be sent to summer camps or that summer camps are bad or that the children don't benefit from them. My views were basically exactly what the article talked about. Which are,

Children have the right to hang around and do nothing during their summer holidays. This obviously doesn't mean that children must hang around and do nothign all the time. But it means it is perfectly normal for them to do that sometimes particularly during their summer vacation. As Vasanthi put it, "Well that is was most of us did when we grew up and we didn't end up being very bad citizens....did we?".

The child must go to a summer camp only if he or she is totally excited about it and really wants to be a part of it. They must really enjoy it and must not look at it as another burden. They must not be sent just because every other child in the neighbourhood goes to one or just because the parents can't handle them at home.

There are also these summer camps that are run by people to just make some money and it doesn't really add much value to the child.
